Problem: Birth certificates are not modernized: they are simply pieces of paper.
Solution: Biometric birth certificates that can identify an individual from birth with biometric information (i.e. blood samples, fingerprints, etc). India has updated the way that they issue birth certificates by creating a National Register of Citizens (“the NRC is an official record of those who are legal Indian citizens. It includes demographic information about all those individuals who qualify as citizens of India,” as described by this source). Though this has been highly debated, there is a patent in the US for a biometric birth certificate that was filed by Larry Fuson. As described by Larry, “biometric birth certificate has a memory device portion mounted on the certificate to store data including DNA sample results.”
Monetization: Sell maintenance of the database or service to hospitals.
